For the last few years, Ascenti physiotherapists have been proud to support Football Aid by providing voluntary physio assistance at their events. This is a great opportunity for our physios to develop their skills and gain further physiotherapy experience in a different environment to their regular clinical setting.
This year two Ascenti physios from our West Midlands region attended matches at Anfield and Molineux where they provided pre-match stretching guidance, sports massages, pitch-side assistance and injury advice.
Band C1 Physiotherapist and Clinical Mentor, Sam Hunt, has been volunteering with Football Aid for over six years. This year he provided supported at Anfield Stadium, and as a Liverpool fan it’s safe to say he enjoyed the experience.
"Working with Football Aid is a fun and unique experience as you get to go behind the scenes of great football teams. Some personal highlights for me were getting to touch the Anfield sign in the tunnel and going onto the pitch for the first time. I also feel like I'm expanding my skills as a physiotherapist by assessing injuries very quickly and keeping players fit for the game."
Band A2 Physiotherapist, Muhammad Zahid, attended the Molineux fixture, and commented: "During the match I had the opportunity to observe musculoskeletal injuries and the progression of symptoms during the acute phase which is different to what I see in clinic, which should help me develop a better understanding of these injuries. I'd definitely like to take part again in the future."
